KING OF SWORDS

King of Swords

judgment · authority · discipline · truth over comfort

Swords are Airthought, truth, conflict, clarity.

Upright

Judgment applied — the authority to decide, and the discipline to decide well. Truth over comfort.

Reversed

Judgment without mercy, or intellect used to dominate rather than to see.

Its element

Air — thought, language, conflict, the story you are telling yourself. Air is the sharpest suit and the one most likely to cut its own holder.

Air of it — the element pointed outward and put to work. Kings get called authoritative; the useful version is simply someone who has decided, and can say why.

Knowing the card isn't reading it

Every entry on this site is free, and always will be — meanings are the easy half. The hard half is what a card does in a position, next to another card, for a real question. Learn to Read is the lessons for that, plus a practice partner that critiques your interpretations — $111, once.

Or read this card in your hand: the deck is all 78 drawn the way you see it above.
