VIITHE CHARIOT

The Chariot

will · direction · momentum · holding the line

Upright

Two forces pulling opposite ways, and you're the one holding the reins. The two creatures pulling it are not matched, and nothing straps them to the cart. Nothing is keeping this together except your intention. This is the card of getting somewhere by refusing to be pulled apart on the way.

Reversed

Force without direction — moving fast and calling it progress. Or the reins dropped entirely: something else is steering, and you've agreed to call that fate.

Its correspondence

Cancer — which people find strange for a war chariot, until you notice the shell. Cancer is armour around something soft. That's what this card is: forward motion made possible by knowing exactly what you're protecting.

How it's usually misread

It's not a victory card, exactly. It's the card of the effort victory actually costs, which is less photogenic.

Knowing the card isn't reading it

Every entry on this site is free, and always will be — meanings are the easy half. The hard half is what a card does in a position, next to another card, for a real question. Learn to Read is the lessons for that, plus a practice partner that critiques your interpretations — $111, once.

Or read this card in your hand: the deck is all 78 drawn the way you see it above.
