This is the card that comes after the Tower, and that order is not an accident. She's pouring water with nothing covering her. That's the whole image: the openness you can only afford once the worst has already happened and you're still here. Not optimism — optimism is a forecast. This is quieter. This is the willingness to be uncovered again.

Reversed

Hope withheld — protecting yourself so thoroughly that nothing can reach you, including the good. Or hope that's floated free of any action, which is just waiting with better lighting.

Its correspondence

Aquarius — the far view, the future, the sign that can imagine an arrangement that doesn't exist yet. Which is what hope actually is, mechanically: the ability to picture a world you have no evidence for, and walk toward it anyway.

How it's usually misread

It isn't luck or a wish. It's the specific relief of having survived something and finding you can still feel things.
