The willingness to start before you feel ready — which is the only way anyone has ever started anything. He is card zero, which means he sits before the deck begins. He isn't a step of the journey. He's the decision to have one. He carries almost nothing. That's the whole card. He can move because he isn't dragging every previous version of the situation behind him.

Reversed

Either recklessness — ignoring the dog, which is the instinct quietly telling you about the edge — or its opposite, waiting for a readiness that is not coming. Ask which one you're doing. From the inside they feel completely different. From the outside they look identical.

Its correspondence

Uranus, and of course it is. Uranus is the planet of the thing you didn't plan for — the swerve, the sudden decision, the life that doesn't resemble the one you outlined. It doesn't do gradual. If the Fool turns up, something is asking you to move before you have the full picture, and Uranus is the reason you won't get the full picture first.

How it's usually misread

People call him naive. He isn't. He's unencumbered, and from a distance those look the same.
