The 78 cards · Major Arcana
The Magician
capability · focus · resourcefulness · as above so below
Upright
You already have what the task requires. All four suits sit on his table — wand, cup, sword, pentacle — one of each, which is the card telling you, flatly, that you are not missing a tool. You're missing the decision to pick one up. This card answers 'am I equipped?' with: yes. And you knew that.
Reversed
Capability aimed at the wrong thing. Or talk standing in for work — the endless preparing, researching, optimising that feels like progress and isn't. Sometimes manipulation: the same skill used to move people instead of to make something.
Its correspondence
Mercury — the planet of hands, language, and getting things across the gap between idea and world. Mercury doesn't grant you anything. It's the one that says *you can do this, so do it or don't, but stop narrating it.*
How it's usually misread
He isn't luck. There's nothing lucky about him. He's what happens when someone finally uses what they've been holding.
Knowing the card isn't reading it
Every entry on this site is free, and always will be — meanings are the easy half. The hard half is what a card does in a position, next to another card, for a real question. Learn to Read is the lessons for that, plus a practice partner that critiques your interpretations — $111, once.
Or read this card in your hand: the deck is all 78 drawn the way you see it above.
