The 78 cards · Major Arcana
The High Priestess
knowing · stillness · the unsaid · interior
Upright
You already know. That's the card. You know, and you're waiting for someone to confirm it so it isn't your fault if you're wrong. She sits between two pillars and says nothing, because the answer isn't on the outside of you. This is the card of the thing you haven't said out loud yet — sometimes not even to yourself.
Reversed
Ignoring what you know because it's inconvenient. Or the opposite — secrecy that's curdled, holding something back so long it's gone strange and heavy.
Its correspondence
The Moon — instinct, tides, the parts that move without asking permission. Not the emotion you can name; the one running underneath it. Where the Magician acts outward, she reads inward, and the Moon governs the whole territory below the waterline.
How it's usually misread
She isn't mysterious for the sake of it. She's the part of you that has already decided and hasn't filed the paperwork.
Knowing the card isn't reading it
Every entry on this site is free, and always will be — meanings are the easy half. The hard half is what a card does in a position, next to another card, for a real question. Learn to Read is the lessons for that, plus a practice partner that critiques your interpretations — $111, once.
Or read this card in your hand: the deck is all 78 drawn the way you see it above.
